Learning to Teach

Spring is here and the larger renovations and rearrangements the shop have come to a conclusion. With the expansion of free time I’ve been able to focus more on teaching and tattooing.

Learning to teach feels like learning to tattoo. I do as much homework on the subject at hand as I possibly can as I plan the lessons but I find myself stumbling through them the day of. I, myself, feel like a student as I’m trying to fill the holes of my own tattoo knowledge in order to teach it in the best way I can. That being said I am going to start writing some of the stuff I am learning and teaching into this blog. A lot of this information was buried and hard to come by when I first got into tattooing and it is slowly growing more accessible as tattooing becomes pop. It is cool to observe how tattooing is being studied in institutions and more pieces are being put together by the day. This excites me because I think it will be nice for tattooers and clients alike to gain common knowledge of tattooing and I believe that it will create a respect for the history as well as push tattooing to continue to progress and grow. I would love to see a future where the norm is to wear a bodysuit.
